In celebration of Earth Recovery Day, ASEZ organized a cleanup event along the bank of the Oklahoma River at Riversport OKC on August 14, 2024. The event was in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Works Department and Riversport OKC, and had around 60 volunteers in attendance. This initiative contributed in restoring the local ecosystems and raising the awareness of environmental protection among the community.
The volunteers cleaned debris and waste along the banks of the Oklahoma River, cleaning the local ecosystem. Through this event, ASEZ was able to collect dozens of trash bags totaling 521 pounds.
Many public officials supported and attended the event, including Congresswoman for Oklahoma City, Ajay Pittman, Councilmember Nikki Nice, United Nations Association of Oklahoma City President and Vice President Luidgi del Cid and Melody Derksen, all of whom signed in support of ASEZ’s Earth Recovery Project.
“I’m really inspired by all the work you all do globally and locally. I was also very impressed by how everyone is coming together and sharing the desire that you all have to be a part of something big,” said Derksen.
“I’m so thankful to be a part of the mission of ASEZ that aims to help the community, and global sustainability,” said Kailee Shuler, an ASEZ member from Oklahoma City Community College.
Through this Earth Recovery Day, ASEZ demonstrated that when university students unite for a common cause, the results can be both inspiring and impactful. ASEZ’s activities are gaining global attention, and more people are expected to join their future efforts to protect the environment.
