ASEZ planted bamboo trees in Meycauayan, Bulacan Province, the Philippines.
The event was held on January 28, 2024, supported by the DENR CENRO (Guiguinto & City of Government of Meycauayan) with 346 participants, including members of IUBA Overseas Culture Experience Team, a group of university student volunteers from Korea, university students from different universities and colleges in the Philippines, Boy Scout of the Philippines, and many public officials from the local government.
The activity began at 8:30 in the morning and continued for about three hours.
The event was attended by the following officials: Councilor of Meycauayan City, Bulacan, Mr. Danilo Abacan; Representative of the Vice Mayor Mr. Dave Cero; Forest Extension Officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR] Winlove Bernales; Head of Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, Bulacan, Ms. Jin Rose Mizuse; and many officials from different local government units in Meycauayan.
Before the tree planting began, the Councilor of Meycauayan City, Bulacan, Mr. Abacan, expressed his gratitude and admiration to the volunteers, saying, “Demonstrating the act of tree planting serves as an inspiration for others to engage in community assistance. Without someone initiating this kind of effort, there might be a lack of interest. However, once the initiative begins, observers are likely to be motivated to join in and contribute.”
Additionally, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office [CENRO] suggested a place where bamboo trees should be planted. They bulldozed the land to make it flat and arranged the soil so that it could be planted with bamboo saplings. Also, the Bureau of Fire Protection immediately took action, providing water supply for the bamboo tree saplings by sending a fire truck. The DENR and CERO of Meycauayan City supplied bamboo saplings, directing the event.
As a result of the event, 100 bamboo saplings were planted and 50 sacks of trash were collected.
Attention is being paid to the activities of ASEZ, which is taking the lead in practical climate change response through activities associated with local governments.
