Beautiful young adults gathered at Ferrocarril Avenue. On Sunday, November 6, 2022, ASEZ members from Continental University in Huancayo cleaned Ferrocarril Avenue.

Ferrocarril Avenue is an important commercial area in the city of Huancayo. As all kinds of markets and stores attract thousands of people here every day, a large amount of waste is accumulated throughout the day. Since 1907, Ferrocarril Avenue has been the route of the historic “El Tren Macho” that connects Huancayo with other cities in central Peru; however, in recent years it has become common to leave garbage on this railway, which makes it difficult to maintain clean.

On this day, ASEZ members cleaned Ferrocarril Avenue from the intersection with Real Avenue and the intersection with Ica Avenue from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They cleaned all over the streets, carrying brooms, dustpans, and spatulas. Since the area had so many shops and consequently had much garbage in the streets, they cleaned up the sidewalk and the messy power poles diligently.

Despite the hot weather, the members did not lose their smiles but volunteered with sincerity. Yahaira, a member of ASEZ from Continental University, said, “I feel grateful to participate in this street cleanup that benefits our community,” stating that she would participate in a similar activity again.

ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, takes the lead in taking care of communities. ASEZ in Peru, too, steadily volunteers for communities such as preserving cultural heritage, renovating park environments, and recovering from flood damage. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cheer Up Campaign was held to deliver letters of encouragement and heartfelt lunch boxes to the medical staff at the San Jose Hospital. ASEZ hopes more citizens will join ASEZ campaigns and build a beautiful community culture.
