On August 4, 2024, the mangrove tree planting and beach cleanup, organized by ASEZ, were successfully held at the beach in 76-A Bucana, Davao City, the Philippines. With the support of Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Davao City, the event was attended by about 150 people, including the Korean Overseas Culture Experience Group, ASEZ members in Davao, the Philippines, and firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Regional Office XI.

On the day of the event, public officials from various government agencies attended and graced the event, including Police Lieutenant Colonel at Police Regional Office XI Melanie Hermosisima; Police Captain at Police Regional Office XI Alan D. Pacultad; Fire Superintendent at BFP Regional Office XI Mary Grace P. Asoy; Director of Ecosystem Management at the DENR Office Gemma D. Fernandez. Together with ASEZ members, they planted 300 mangrove saplings and collected 50 bags of plastics and plastic bags on the beach, emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment.

In particular, Lieutenant Colonel at Davao City Police Station Alan D. Pacultad, while reading a congratulatory message from Regional Director of Police Regional Office XI Nicolas D. Torre, mentioned, “Continuous cooperation and responsibility for environmental preservation are important. The Police will also contribute to building a happy society as well as protecting society.” Fire Superintendent at BFP Regional Office XI Mary Grace P. Asoy, praised the value of ASEZ’s activities, saying, “Today’s activities will be the starting point for a cleaner and happier future.”

For this event, ASEZ members thoroughly planned and cooperated from the preparatory stage. With the support of DENR Davao CENRO and Bucana (76-A) Satellite Barangay Hall, equipment for collecting mangrove saplings and garbage were provided, and the event was successfully concluded thanks to their active cooperation.

Zedrick, a 20-year-old ASEZ member who participated in the event, expressed his responsibility, saying, “Young adults should take the lead in preserving the environment for future generations.” Jang Jee-hui, an ASEZ member of the Overseas Culture Experience Group from Korea, said, “I’m thankful that though small, I could contribute to preserving Davao City and the global environment.”

Through this event, ASEZ carries out practical and sustainable activities to address climate change and contributes to raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection through cooperation with local communities. ASEZ’s activities are gaining global attention, and more people are expected to join the efforts to protect the environment.
