As part of the “Reduce Crime Together” campaign, the international university student volunteer group ASEZ returned to Lehman College to carry out graffiti removal and street cleanup activities. About 65 students from six nearby universities joined forces to improve the appearance of the campus entrance and surrounding streets. During the morning, they painted over vandalized walls and collected 23 bags of trash, achieving significant results.

This was the second cleanup activity at the same location, following the first one in November of last year. The noticeable decrease in litter and graffiti since then proved the sustainability of environmental improvement efforts. In particular, the students have been fostering a positive community culture by continuously acting with the awareness that they are stewards of both their campuses and surrounding communities.

Students from Lehman College, Mercy University, Monroe College, Westchester Community College, FIT, and Bronx Community College participated in the activity. United under ASEZ’s signature blue shirts, they are building trust and solidarity within the local community through consistent volunteer work.

Elisa Urena, a volunteer from Mercy University, said, “Returning to the same area repeatedly delivers a heartfelt message of true change, beyond just cleaning.” Fernando Delgado, President of Lehman College, also offered words of support, saying, “Thank you for inviting me. Good luck with the event. The earth could use some positivity and care”

Armed with paint rollers, trash bags, and youthful passion, ASEZ continues to transform neighborhoods one street at a time. Through sustained interest and cooperation, the younger generation is working to restore not only the environment and safety of their communities, but also hope.
