In the Philippines, ASEZ continues to conduct Reduce Crime Together [RCT] seminars and forums, raising awareness on how we can reduce crime together especially among students.
To activate this campaign, a crime prevention seminar was conducted on January 30, 2023, entitled “ASEZ Character Education on Crime Prevention for University Students” at National University [NU] in Manila, the Philippines.
It was attended by representatives from the Philippine National Police [PNP] and local government units around the area with more than 200 students and professors from the National University.
The event started with the introduction of ASEZ and its campaigns, followed by presentations about crime awareness and prevention. The seminar was focused on educating students on understanding their various characters and action that can make a difference in reducing crimes around them.
In cooperation with Manila Police District, Barbosa Police Station 14 sent their representatives as speakers. Police Master Sergeant [PMSg] Janice B. Ramento presented on crime awareness and prevention, emphasizing the RA 9262, which is known as the Violence Against Women and Children Act. Police Senior Sergeant [PSSg] Jovanny Carlo C. Reyes spoke about the chemical makeup of illicit drugs, the adverse effects these substances have on our appearance and mindset, and the negative future of those who abuse them.
After that, Police Captain [PCPT] Louie D. Serbito, one of the leaders in Manila Police District, demonstrated different kinds of modus or techniques that criminals use to deceive their victims.
The seminar received much positive feedbacks from the students, professors, and guests who attended the event.
Dianna Aquino, a 3rd year student from the Department of Psychology, expressed her gratitude towards this seminar, saying, “Today, people are depressed because this world became more individualistic, and this results in crimes in the country. But if we remember the love of a mother, who only wants the happiness and safety of her children, we can avoid crimes together.”
Police Lieutenant [PLT] Alma A. Dipasupil from Manila Police District expressed their station’s willingness to continuously collaborate with ASEZ to promote a crime-free environment.
In addition, Professor Lilibeth Diaz, the Head of Athletics Academic Development Office of NU, conveyed how impressed and thankful she was for the seminar. She said she believes that with this activity, the students can be safer from the dangers that they can potentially face in their day-to-day life as university students. She also promised to encourage the athletes of the university to join the next activity of ASEZ.
Through this forum, we look forward to the future where more people are interested in crime prevention and participate in practical activities together.
