On March 9, 2025, a Youth Empowerment Forum was held in the Bronx, New York, U.S., in celebration of Women’s History Month. The forum brought together students, educators, and professionals to discuss the power of education and leadership in shaping the future. It served as an opportunity for young people to actively engage in their own growth and development.

Under the theme “Fostering Young Leaders Through Education,” the forum shed light on the accomplishments of remarkable women who have made significant contributions to society but have long remained underrecognized. Through discussions on education, leadership, and resilience, participants reflected on the influence of women and realized their own potential to become agents of change.

The forum began with a keynote speech by Captain Luz Garcia, an officer with the U.S. Air Force State Services Team and a certified instructor. Captain Garcia emphasized how education can break down barriers and cultivate leadership among younger generations. She encouraged attendees to always stay true to themselves and trust the process, regardless of the field they pursue. Drawing from her experience as a woman in leadership, she highlighted the importance of incorporating the value of diversity and inclusion into leadership.

Attendees participated in a variety of interactive activities that enable them to reflect on themselves and gain learning and inspiration, including:
- “Gratitude Table” to express appreciation,
- “Women’s History Kahoot!” quiz game spotlighting lesser-known but historically important women,
- “Youth Empowerment Positive Messages Wall” where peers shared uplifting messages.

The panel discussion featured:
- Dr. Karen Ellefsen, a doctoral lecturer in Early Childhood and Childhood Education at Lehman College, and
- Sarai Encarnacion Afloarin, an environmental pediatrics researcher at NYU Hospital and adjunct professor at Monroe University.
These speakers shared their professional insights and personal experiences, offering concrete examples of how education and leadership influence social problem-solving and personal growth to bring about positive change.

Aurora Ruby Whyte, a Lehman College student and member of ASEZ, shared her reflections: “Through this forum, I’ve gained confidence that I, too, can make a positive impact in my community.”
She expressed how she was moved by the stories of women who have contributed to society yet remained largely unrecognized, and she pledged to broaden her perspective and strive to help others.

Looking ahead, ASEZ plans to continue nurturing young leaders through education and community services. This Youth Empowerment Forum is part of a larger initiative aimed at strengthening leadership, personal development, and social influence among university students. ASEZ intends to expand the forum to offer even more learning and action opportunities to young adults in the future.
