On March 26, 2023, ASEZ university students gathered at California State University, Fresno to plant flowers on the campus.

ASEZ students have felt the need to take care of the campus gardens. After getting in touch with the grounds department at the university, they planned this volunteer activity. ASEZ members gathered early in the morning and underwent a brief tutorial by the grounds team on how to plant flowers and trees, spread the mulch, and water the plants before the work.

The work consisted of planting over 200 flowers and four trees, laying and spreading the mulch in the flower beds, watering the plants, and spreading the remaining mulch at the nearby flower bed. Some members weeded nearby planters in an effort to beautify the campus. The place where the ASEZ students cleaned was where top administrative officers normally come through.

“Thank you everybody for all of your efforts here. You can’t put a price on something like this. A project like this would’ve taken us two or three weeks if we had time dedicated. To get this much work done, it’s absolutely priceless. I can’t begin to tell you how much this means to us as a grounds crew to have your help, and you can see how beautiful it made this path. These are some of the top administrative officers that come through this,” said Tim Breshears, head of the grounds crew at Fresno State.

Fresno State President Dr. Saul Jimenez-Sandoval came to the event and offered some supportive messages.

“Fundamentally, we get good grades because we honor our families. And then, when we do that, we give back to the community as well, so this is what it’s all about. I want to thank you for being great talents and being great leaders. For whatever you are going to do in the future, you’re going to make yourselves, the community, and the world proud.”

He then added, “Let’s get to work!” and participated in the event for almost an hour.

The time slot given was four hours, but with unity, the members were able to finish in two hours. Through this event, the ASEZ university students did not only beautify the campus, but also expressed their willingness to actively contribute to the development of the campus and community in the future. The grounds crew welcomed the members back at any time.

After the event, Tim Breshears said, “To partner with groups like yours is absolutely wonderful, and I appreciate it. Come back at any time, we welcome you.”

Attention is paid to the future activities of ASEZ university students who plan and implement projects that eradicate social problems. We look forward ‍to their efforts that will make this world a better and more beautiful place to live.
